Backpackers Cable Dolly

Thumb

While shooting two shorts for Parks Canada, Ray Schmidt and myself had the idea of constructing a cable dolly that fit the following criteria:

  • Small enough to fit in a pack alongside overnight gear and camera equipment
  • Inexpensive
  • Easy to repair
  • Fully Adjustable
  • Rugged and Weatherproof
  • Setup time of less than 5 minutes under ideal conditions
  • Lightweight

What came out of it was a system built of PVC piping, steel cable, laundry pulleys, and cordellete strong enough to support a small camcorder.
